Crowns & Bridges
Crowns are restoration that caps or surrounds a tooth or an implant. Bridges are when two or more crown are joined together to replace missing teeth.
These type of restorations are commonly used to restore:
- Heavily broken down teeth
- Previously root canal treated teeth
- To modify or change the shape, tooth position or tooth colour
- To replace missing teeth (bridges)
There are many materials to make these restorations including different types of metals (gold, palladium, silver, etc) or ceramic (porcelain, Alumina and Zirconia). The combination of the two materials created the most common and widely used crown PFM (Porcelain fused to Metal).
The process comprises the preparation of the tooth or implant (or what remains of tooth), followed by a dental or digital impression, which then is sent to a laboratory to fabricate the crown or bridge.
